Artbeats Starfields 2 HD

Starfields 2 HD is definitely worth picking up if you need a space shot for your next production! By Stephen Schleicher

If you are going to do any kind of sci-fi related project, chances are you are going to have at least one shot that shows off the vastness of space. For those on a budget, spending the time rendering a high resolution space scene may be out of reach.

Fortunately, Artbeats returns to outer space with a whole new collection of clips that you can use.

The Starfields 2 HD contains clips that vary from deep space galaxies and nebulae, to planetary flybys.

Though this collection is relatively small, only 24 clips, there is going to be at least one clip that will meet your needs.  My initial reaction to this collection was that these clips could easily turn into an intro for a sci-fi episodic.  Because of the variety of clips, a 30 second intro would be a piece of cake.

Throw in credits, some fancy music, the proper voice over, and a high-end (and expensive looking) intro is out the door and to the client.  Even if you aren't looking to create the next Space Battle 2099 entertainment program, this collection has a variety of uses for projects in education, business, or any project that has a space theme to it.

What I like about this collection is the high-definition renders look great - especially if you have looked at other stock footage libraries and their selection of space clips.  The particle systems and high end rendering in the Artbeats Starfields 2 HD collection look fabulous, and really set the bar for others.  Even compared to the previous Artbeats Starfields collection, this offering is out of this world (pun intended).

The biggest downside of this collection is going to be the price. The entire Starfields 2 HD is listed at $1,099. But when one does the math, you can see this is actually a bargain.  Buying the entire collection means each clip is only $45, compared to the nearly $300 you would pay if you were to buy shots one at a time.

While the price tag will be a concern, for those working in an episodic environment you can get a lot of mileage out of this collection.

As with any stock footage library the other risk is that you will eventually see one of these clips appear somewhere else. Quite honestly, in all the years I've been using Artbeats collections, I've only seen this happen less than ten times, and the projects and venues were so different from one another, that few will every remember seeing a clip appearing in other productions.

Though I would like to see more clips or a new collection come out in the next year, Artbeats Starfields 2 HD is definitely worth picking up if you need a space shot for your next production and don't want to spend a lot of time learning a particle system/3D animation package.

Artbeats Starfields 2 HD earns a Good Buy Recommendation from this reviewer.
